A World Without …Stuff

02 Aug Everyday Stuff | Comments Off

The Lord gave me a wonderful picture in my mind.  He spoke to me through it. I will describe to you this God-moment wherein I was revitalized in the most basic but profound of ways.

I saw the earth from above, and from that distance I could supernaturally “see” everything on the earth in all its detail.  It was like scanning a detailed map with a magnifying glass, looking over at every tree, river, mountain, and plain.  I could see all of the people scattered across the face of the planet, each one tucked into their own corner of life, busily doing their thing–working, making plans, ministering, playing, vacationing, living their lives.  I could see every building including offices, skyscrapers, churches.  I could see all of the cars and every other vehicle moving as ants from the view of an airplane window.  I could see that the world was very full.

The planet was abuzz with activity.

All in an instant, every tree, building and object was whisked skyward, leaving the planet completely exposed.  The people looked amazed as everything around them disappeared except for the masses of those left standing.  It was then that the Holy Spirit said to me:

“Well, now what do we do?”

The words rang through me.  Now what do we do… without stuff?  Without anything but people?  What can people do without stuff, and what will people do with only people? Don’t people need stuff?  The message settled.  If we remove the buildings, the vehicles and the schedules and rigors of life, what’s left are the people.  And the people should be what we see most in our mind’s eye.  It’s easy for me to get distracted by stuff… Especially when it comes to Japan, probably the capital “stuff” of the world.  So this was a good God lesson for me to use the Spirit’s emphasis when living my life.  Get through the stuff, and get to the people.  That’s where the hearts are.  That’s where the ambitions lie.  That’s where God’s Kingdom gains.  People.

Do we need stuff?  You tell me.
